Activity of the volcano increased. The activity of
the volcano could affect international and low-flying aircraft.
According to video data and visual observations
from Klyuchi, a gas-steam plume containing small amount of ash rose up to 5.3 km
(17,400 ft) ASL and extended to the south-west on February 15. Series of ash
explosions were noted from 05:40 UTC this day. An incandesce at the crater began
to observe in the dark time - probably a Strombolian activity of the volcano
occurs. Volcanic bombs are raising up to 0.3 km above the volcanic crater (5.1
km or 16,700 ft ASL). Seismic activity of the volcano continues. Volcanic
earthquakes and volcanic tremor are registering.

The Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team
(KVERT) is a non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska Volcano
Observatory (AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVS) FED
RAS and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia). KVERT
staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or KDT) and by
phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite imagery, information from
remote scientific observation stations, real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes,
and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kurile
Volcanoes.
