KLYUCHEVSKOY
VOLCANO; 56°03'N, 160°39'E; Elevation 4,750 m
CURRENT LEVEL OF CONCERN COLOR
CODE IS RED
PREVIOUS LEVEL OF CONCERN COLOR CODE:
ORANGE
The strong explosive-effusive
eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 10 km (32,000 ft.) ASL
could occur at any time and could affect international and low-flying
aircraft.
Seismic activity of Kluchevskoy increased at 03 h 50 min on
June 28. According to video data clouds or dark time obscured the volcano till
19 h 30 min on June 28. Ash plume was registered from 19 h 30 min to 20 h 10
min. Height of this ash plume was up to 9 km ASL. Seismicity was above
background levels this week: volcanic earthquakes and a medium volcanic tremor
were registered.
According to visual and video data, clouds obscured the
volcano on June 21-27. Ash fall was noted in Kozyrevsk on June 22. According to
satellite data, a thermal anomaly was noted on June 22-23 and 26-27. Ash plumes
extended for 25-860 km (16-354 mi) to different directions on June 21-24 and 28.
Approximate plumes altitudes based on atmospheric profiles were 4500-9500 m
(14,400-30,400ft) ASL.
SHEVELUCH VOLCANO: 56°38'N, 161°19'E;
Elevation 3,283 m, the dome elevation ~2,500 m.
CURRENT LEVEL OF CONCERN
COLOR CODE IS ORANGE
Growth of the
lava dome continues. Ash explosions up to 10 km (32,800 ft.) ASL could occur at
any time. The activity of the volcano could affect international and low-flying
aircraft.
Seismic activity remains above background levels. Many shallow
volcanic earthquakes were registered. According to seismic data, ash plumes up
to 6.5 km (20800 ft) ASL occurred at the volcano last week. Clouds obscured the
volcano all week. According to satellite data, a big thermal anomaly was noted
all week.
KARYMSKY VOLCANO: 54°03'N, 159°27'E; Elevation 1,486
m.
CURRENT LEVEL OF CONCERN COLOR CODE IS ORANGE
The eruption of the volcano
continues. Ash explosions up to 6 km (or 19,700 ft.) ASL are possible at any
time. The activity of the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft in the
vicinity of the volcano.
Seismic activity was above background levels
all week. According to seismic data, possibly ash explosions rose up to 4.7 km
(~15,400 ft) ASL all days. According to satellite data, gas-steam plume was
noted on June 27, volcano was obscured by clouds in other days.
BEZYMIANNY VOLCANO: 55°58'N, 160°36'E; Elevation 2,895
m
CURRENT LEVEL OF CONCERN COLOR CODE IS YELLOW
Growth of the lava dome continues. The
activity of the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the
volcano.
Strong seismicity at nearby Klyuchevskoy makes it difficult to
characterize seismicity at Bezymianny. One volcanic earthquake was registered on
June 25. According to visual and satellite data, clouds obscured the volcano all
days.

The Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team
(KVERT) is a non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska Volcano
Observatory (AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVS) FED
RAS and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia). KVERT
staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or KDT) and by
phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite imagery, information from
remote scientific observation stations, real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes,
and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles
Volcanoes.
