Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanic Activity
KVERT INFORMATION RELEASE  55-07
Monday, November 05, 2007, 22:00 UTC (Tuesday, November 06, 10:00 KDT)

BEZYMIANNY  VOLCANO: 55°58'N, 160°36'E; Elevation 2,895 m
CURRENT LEVEL OF  CONCERN COLOR CODE IS YELLOW

Growth of the volcano continues. A viscous lava flow is effusing from the summit dome at Bezymianny. Sudden ash emission related to this activity could affect low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the volcano.

According to seismic data, probably small series of explosive events or collapses of a frontal part of lava flow of the dome occurred from 08:43 till 10:10 UTC on November 05. The general event was from 08:43 till 09:55 UTC on November 05. There were two hot avalanches at 15:45 UTC (moderate) and at 18:07 UTC (small) on that day. A height of this ash plume is unknown. Clouds obscured the volcano on November 01-06. KVERT have not the satellite data on this time. According to AVO satellite data, a bright thermal anomaly was observed over the dome at 17:52 UTC (NOAA-16).

The Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response  Team (KVERT) is a non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska Volcano  Observatory (AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVS)  FED RAS and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia). KVERT staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM  (KST or KDT) and by phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite  imagery, information from remote scientific observation stations,  real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes, and other information to monitor  activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanoes.
