KVERT has reached a temporary funding agreement and the KVERT Project has returned to full operations. KVERT will provide daily analysis and evaluation of activity of volcanoes of Kamchatka and Northern Kuriles to ensure safe air services. The temporary agreement will fund the KVERT Project until 30 April 2010.

KAMCHATKA:

BEZYMIANNY VOLCANO: 55°58'N, 160°36'E; Elevation 2,895 m
CURRENT AVIATION COLOR CODE IS ORANGE
CURRENT AVIATION COLOR CODE IS
YELLOW

Probably strong explosive eruption of Bezymianny volcano is preparing. Ash explosions > 10 km (>32,800 ft) ASL could occur at any time from February 07 till February 10. The activity of the volcano could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

Strong volcanic activity of Klyuchevskoy volcano obscures seismic data of Bezymianny from January 04, 2010, till present. Clouds obscured the volcano last week. But according to satellite data (NOAA-15 (3), a big thermal anomaly with temperature of 58,6 degrees of Celsius over the lava dome was registering at 18:05 on February 07, 2010. There was noted a high temperature of anomaly last two nights.

The Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) is a non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVS) FED RAS and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia). KVERT staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or KDT) and by phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite imagery, information from remote scientific observation stations, real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes, and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanoes.
