Probably Strong explosive eruption occurs. Probably ash explosions is raising > 10.0 km (>32,800 ft) ASL. Clouds obscure the volcano. The activity of the volcano could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

According to seismic data, magnitude of volcanic tremor of the volcano sharp increased from ~14:00 UTC on October 27. Clouds obscure the volcano. An ash fall started in Ust-Kamchatsk at ~ 18:00 UTC on October 27. The road from Ust-Kamchatsk to Kluchi closed because there is no visibility at the route - very dark. According to bad visual data from Klyuchi at present time, a dark ash plume extend to the east from the volcano. According to satellite data (NOAA-16), a large ash plume extended to the east and obscured Ust-Kamchatsk at 20:09 UTC on October 27.

KLYUCHEVSKOY VOLCANO; 56° 03'N, 160° 39'E; Elevation 4,750  m

Explosive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions >10.0 km (>23,000 ft) ASL could occur at any time. The activity of the volcano could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

Activity
of the volcano increased again. Seismicity of the volcano is very unstable: a magnitude of volcanic tremor is changing sometimes from 5 to 30 mps. According to visual data at present time, ash plumes are raising up to 8.0-8.5 km (27,900 ft) ASL. Ash plumes are extending to the south-east from the volcano. Possibly activity of the volcano will increase.

KARYMSKY VOLCANO: 54°03'N, 159°27'E; Elevation 1,486 m

Explosive activity of the volcano continues. Ash explosions > 6.0 km (> 19,700 ft) ASL could occur at any time. Aactivity of the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity of the volcano was above background levels all week. According to seismic data, possibly ash plumes rose up about 2.0-4.0 km (6,560-13,120 ft) ASL this week. According to visual data by volcanologists who worked at the volcano, ash plumes raising up to 2.5-3.0 km (8,200-9,840 ft) ASL were observed on October 14-16 and extended to the east, the Strombolian activity of the volcano in the dark time was noted constantly. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registered over the volcano on October 15-16 and 18-19.

Activity of the volcano is increasing. Probably an eruption of Gorely is preparing. Aerosol plumes from the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity of the volcano was above background levels all week, volcanic tremor continues to records. According to visual data, gas-steam plumes rose up to 2.8 km (9,200 ft) ASL on October 15-16 and 21; clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registered over the volcano on October 15-16.

BEZYMIANNY VOLCANO: 55°58'N, 160°36'E; Elevation 2,895 m
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS YELLOW

Grows of the lava dome of the volcano continues and aerosol plumes could affect low-flying aircraft.

Strong volcanic activity of Klyuchevskoy volcano obscured seismic data of Bezymianny all week. According to visual data, moderate gas-steam activity of the volcano was observed on October 15-17; clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week. According to satellite data, a weak thermal anomaly was registered over the lava dome on October 15, 17 and 18; clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week.

The Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) is a non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVS) FED RAS and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia). KVERT staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or KDT) and by phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite imagery, information from remote scientific observation stations, real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes, and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanoes.
