ATTENTION:
BEGINNING THIS WEEK, KVERT WILL ASSIGN AN AVIATION COLOR CODE FOR 22 ADDITIONAL VOLCANOES OF KAMCHATKA AND THE NORTHERN KURILES.

THESE VOLCANOES ARE NOT PRESENTLY MONITORED WITH SEISMIC INSTRUMENTS HOWEVER KVERT SCIENTISTS EXAMINE SATELLITE INFORMATION EACH DAY TO LOOK FOR EVIDENCE OF VOLCANIC UNREST SINCE 2002. NOT ALL OF THESE VOLCANOES HAD ERUPTIONS IN HISTORICAL TIME, HOWEVER THEY ARE POTENTIALLY ACTIVE AND THEREFORE ARE OF CONCERN TO AVIATION.

KLYUCHEVSKOY VOLCANO; 56° 03'N, 160° 39'E; Elevation 4,750  m (15,580 ft)

Possibly the explosive-effusive eruption of the volcano finished on November 04, but a danger of ash explosions up to 7 km (or 22,960 ft) ASL remains. Aerosol and possible ash plumes could affect low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity of the volcano sharp decreased ~ at 10:00 UTC on November 04. Explosive activity finished. Only a moderate gas-steam activity is observing from that time.

Seismicity of the volcano was above background levels all week. According to visual data, Strombolian activity was observed all week. Vulcanian activity produced ash plumes up to 7.0 km (23,000 ft) ASL on October 31 and November 01-04. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registered over the volcano all week. Ash plumes extended > 480 km (300 mi) mainly to the south-east from the volcano all week.

SHEVELUCH VOLCANO: 56°38'N, 161°19'E; Elevation 3,283 m, the dome elevation ~2,500 m (~8,200 ft)

Explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 10 km (or 32,800 ft) ASL could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

Moderate seismic activity of the volcano continues. According to seismic data, possibly, ash plumes rose up to 5.8 km (19,000 ft) ASL on October 31 and November 01 and 04. According to visual data, strong gas-steam activity of the volcano was observed on November 01-02; clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registered over the volcano all week. Ash plumes extended about 400 km (248 mi) to the south-east from the volcano on October 31 and November 01.

Pyroclastic flow deposits from the large explosive eruption on October 27, 2010, were detected on November 01, on the east-south-eastern flank of the volcano on satellite images. A run out of pyroclastic flow was about 15 km (9 mi).

According to the visual data by volcanologists, why inspected deposits of pyroclastic flow on November 02, the pyroclastic flow annihilated a forest into the valley of Bekesh River. A distance between a front of deposits of pyroclastic flow and the bridge at Bekesh River was about 5.5 km (3.4 mi). More then a half of the lava dome edifice was destroyed during the eruption on October 27, 2010.

KARYMSKY VOLCANO: 54°03'N, 159°27'E; Elevation 1,486 m (4,874 ft)

Explosive activity of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 6.0 km (or 19,700 ft) ASL could occur at any time. Activity of the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity of the volcano was above background levels all week. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registered over the volcano on October 30-31 and November 01; clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week.

GORELY VOLCANO: 52°33'N, 158°02'E; Elevation 1,828 m (5,996 ft)

Seismic and thermal activity of the volcano remains high. This ongoing unrest may eventually lead to an explosive eruption. At present, aerosol plumes from the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft.

Seismicity of the volcano was above background levels all week, volcanic tremor continues to records. According to visual data, weak or moderate gas-steam activity of the volcano was observed on October 28-30 and November 01; clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week.

BEZYMIANNY VOLCANO: 55°58'N, 160°36'E; Elevation 2,895 m (9,455 ft)

Grows of the lava dome of the volcano continues and aerosol plumes could affect low-flying aircraft.

Strong volcanic activity of Klyuchevskoy volcano obscured seismic data of Bezymianny all week. According to visual data, moderate gas-steam activity of the volcano was observed on November 02-04. Clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week.

The Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) is a non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IVS) FED RAS and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia). KVERT staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or KDT) and by phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite imagery, information from remote scientific observation stations, real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes, and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanoes.
