KIZIMEN VOLCANO (1000-23)
55°08'N, 160°19'E; Elevation 8,151 ft (2,485 m)
CURRENT AVIATION COLOR CODE IS ORANGE
Moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues. Strong ash explosions up to 32,800 ft (10 km) ASL could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.
After strong explosive events on May 03, seismicity of the volcano remains high. According to visual data, ash falls occurred at the Kipelye springs (9.3 mi (15 km) to the west from the volcano) on May 03. A thickness of an ash layer was about 1 cm. A big hot pyroclastic flow deposits on the north-eastern volcanic flank were detected at satellite images on May 04. A bright thermal anomaly was registering over the volcano all week. Ash plumes extended about 174 mi (280 km) to the southern directions from the volcano on May 03-05, and about 38.4 mi (62 km) to the different directions on the other days of week.

History of Kizimen eruptions is unknown. We have incomplete data about
only one eruption in 1928-1929 which were likely moderate explosive (or
explosive-effusive) events. Tephrachronological data point out several
catastrophic eruptions in evolution of this volcano.

SHEVELUCH VOLCANO (1000-27)
56°38'N, 161°19'E; Elevation 3,283 m, the dome elevation ~8,200 ft
(~2,500 m)
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS ORANGE
Explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 32,800 ft (10 km) ASL could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.
Seismicity of the volcano continues, and according to seismic data, possible ash plume rose up to 19,700 ft (6 km) ASL on April 29 and May 02. According to visual data, ash plumes rose up to 14,760 ft (4.5 km) ASL on April 28-29. According to satellite data, ash plumes extended about 77 mi (124 km) to the north-eastern directions from the volcano on May 01. A thermal anomaly was registered over the lava dome all week.

Explosive activity of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 19,700 ft (6 km) ASL could occur at any time. Activity of the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft.
Moderate seismic activity of the volcano continues, possible ash plumes rose up to 16,070 ft (4.9 km) ASL. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registering over the volcano on May 01-04.

Effusion of viscous lava flow at the dome slope continues. Small ash plumes from hot avalanches is possible. Ash and aerosol plumes could affect low-flying aircraft.
Weak seismic activity of the volcano was registering on May 01-04; there was not seismic data due to technical reasons on the other days of week. According to visual data, moderate gas-steam activity was observing on April 29; clouds obscured the volcano on the other days of week. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly over the lava dome was registering on April 30 and May 01-04.

GORELY VOLCANO (1000-07)
52°33'N, 158°02'E; Elevation 5,996 ft (1,828 m)
AVIATION COLOR CODE IS YELLOW
Seismic and thermal activity of the volcano remains high. This ongoing
unrest may eventually lead to an explosive eruption. Aerosol plumes
from the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft.
Moderate seismic activity of the volcano continues and weak volcanic tremor was registered at the volcano all week. According to visual data, a moderate gas-steam activity was observed on April 28. According to satellite data on May 05, a weak thermal anomaly was registered over the volcano and gas-steam plume extended about 9 mi (15 km) to the west from the volcano.

FOR 22 ADDITIONAL VOLCANOES OF KAMCHATKA AND THE NORTHERN KURILES.
THESE VOLCANOES ARE NOT PRESENTLY MONITORED WITH SEISMIC INSTRUMENTS
HOWEVER KVERT SCIENTISTS EXAMINED SATELLITE INFORMATION EACH DAY TO
LOOK FOR EVIDENCE OF VOLCANIC UNREST SINCE 2002. NOT ALL OF THESE
VOLCANOES HAD ERUPTIONS IN HISTORICAL TIME, HOWEVER THEY ARE
POTENTIALLY ACTIVE AND THEREFORE ARE OF CONCERN TO AVIATION.

The KVERT Project is a non-commercial cooperative program of the Alaska
Volcano Observatory (AVO, USA), the Institute of Volcanology and
Seismology (IVS) FED RAS and the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical
Survey (KB GS) RAS (Russia). KVERT staff is available in the office
from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or KDT) and by phone during the
evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite imagery, information from remote
scientific observation stations, real-time seismic data for 10
volcanoes, and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and
Northern Kuriles Volcanoes.
