(10) Summit Elevation: | 1856 m (6087.68 ft) |
(11) Volcanic Activity Summary: | An explosive eruption of the Krasheninnikov volcano began at 16:50 UTC on 02 August, 2025б with ash explosions up to 3-4 km a.s.l. There is a first historic eruption of this volcano. According to data by Kronotsky nature park staff, at now explosions sent ash up to 5-6 km a.s.l., an ash deposits covered a part of Kronotsky nature park. Satellite data by KVERT showed an ash plume is moving for 75 km to the east of the volcano. An explosive eruption of the volcano continues. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft. |
(12) Volcanic cloud height: | 5000-6000 m (16400-19680 ft) AMSL Time and method of ash plume/cloud height determination: 20250802/2150Z – visual data |
(13) Other volcanic cloud information: | Distance of ash plume/cloud of the volcano: 72 km (45 mi) Direction of drift of ash plume/cloud of the volcano: E / azimuth 82 deg Time and method of ash plume/cloud determination: 20250802/2050Z – Himawari-9 14m15 Start time of explosion and how determined: /1650Z – Himawari-9 14m15 |
(14) Remarks: | The volcano is associated with the Eastern volcanic belt and is located about 13 km south of Kronotsky lake, in 200 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The complex volcanic edifice consisting of two merged cones is in ancient caldera about 9 km in diameter. Northern cone has telescopic structure - in the center caldera about 2 km in diameter are located two cones enclosed each other. Height of least of them - 150 m, diameter of its crater - 60 m. |
The last lava effusion took place on 1463±40. No historic eruption is known. In 1963 traces of fumarolic activity were registered in the crater of the middle Northern cone. | |
